Samsung I5800 Galaxy 3

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Smartphones for the masses is what Samsung want and Bada alone won’t be enough perhaps to get them there. Why not the Samsung I5800 Galaxy 3 then? A mid-range Android phone with a custom paintjob on the OS and few nice software surprises – doesn’t sound bad at all. Android is infiltrating the lower smartphone ranks. Mission objective: cut down on expensive hardware features and provide a robust experience. The Samsung I5800 Galaxy 3 does just that. The hardware won’t make it a flagship, but with 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, Android OS (slightly modified and even improved) and a 1500mAh battery it sounds like a reliable phone that can do the job for most people. Nokia 3720 classic

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

The Nokia 3720 classic is putting on its boots, pulling on its anorak, slinging its rucksack over its shoulder and striding out into the unfriendliest of environments: water, dust, tough ground…you name it, this device promises to shrug it off and keep on going. After countless Nseries, Eseries, XpressMusic and classic releases and facelifts, Nokia look keen to revisit an almost forgotten niche of users – those who need a tough phone. Well, the Finns have finally put that right and they seem to have a promising candidate on their hands for those who care less about features and even less about the weather. So, if you’re after a handset that can survive the elements, get ready to check out the rugged Nokia 3720. (more…)

Sony Ericsson Aino

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

The Sony Ericsson Aino features Remote Play, initially available on the PlayStation 3 (PS3) and PSP, which lets users remotely control and browse multimedia content stored on the PS3 hard drive (HDD) via Wi-Fi or 3G. So, in addition to the flash memory (built-in and 8GB microSD card) on the handset, you have access to all your music, pictures and videos on the PS3 via the familiar Xross Media Bar interface. Setting up the Aino to “talk” to the PS3 was straightforward for most part, but there were settings that needed to be changed in order to get the most out of the Remote Play feature. For example, auto login for the PlayStation Network (PSN) account and Remote Start option should be enabled. This lets us remotely activate the console and stream music, videos, browse photo albums and access the PSN store. We couldn’t play games via Remote Play, but that’s not a big deal since the gaming experience will be radically different (probably not ideal) using the controller compared with the keypad on the Aino. Motorola Karma QA1

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

It seems that PCD isn’t the only manufacturer making square messaging phones. Indeed, the Motorola Karma QA1 for AT&T looks a whole lot like PCD’s Verizon Wireless Blitz and the more recent Cricket TXTM8. However, the Karma QA1 is a step above those two in both design and features. It has 3G speeds, a full HTML browser, and quick access to social networking applications, making it more than just a normal messaging phone. The Motorola Karma QA1 is available for $79.99 with a two-year agreement with AT&T. (more…)

Samsung Omnia Pro B7610

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

The Samsung Omnia II has been a big hit, so it’s no wonder that Samsung wanted to continue the success of the line by making the same device (more or less) but with a slide-out keyboard. The Omnia Pro B7610 is positioned nicely against the Touch Pro2, but adds a faster CPU and an AMOLED display. Which is superior? Read our full review for the lowdown! (more…)

LG Neon GT365 : Low Cost Touch Screen Device

Monday, April 5th, 2010

The LG Xenon was LG’s first messaging phone for AT&T, and not only does it have a full QWERTY keyboard, it has a 2.8-inch touch screen and 3G support. If you want something smaller and simpler, LG has another messaging phone for AT&T, dubbed the LG Neon. It has a full QWERTY keyboard like the Xenon, but it’s more compact, is only a tri-band phone, and doesn’t have 3G. Unusually, the Neon does have a touch screen, but only for the phone dialer, which we found weird. Its quirks aside, the Neon is just fine for those looking for a simple messaging phone. We weren’t thrilled with the latter, but for a simple messaging phone, the Neon works just fine. The LG Neon is available for $29.99 with a two-year contract and after a $50 mail-in rebate.
